Steinwald
Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany

The project area is located in a privately owned forest in the Upper Palatinate region, within the Tirschenreuth district. The forest is actively managed under standard forestry practices. The project aims to extend the rotation period of the trees by lengthening the harvest cycle through a short-term harvest delay.

By monetizing negative emission credits, the forest owner is incentivized to postpone harvesting, thereby increasing the forest’s carbon sink. Through a contractually agreed one-year harvest delay, the forest continues to grow and demonstrably sequesters more CO₂ than in the baseline scenario.

Only the additional biomass growth accumulated during this project year is verified as carbon removal. This additional CO₂ uptake is verified ex post at the end of the reporting period after the storage has been delivered.
